Becoming less polarised
We live in a world where opinions are black or white, good or bad. There's no middle ground, everything has become too dramatic. I guess we ended up here because the media needed to sell more, and what sells better than conflict?
Sadly, this impacts each and every one of us. Unknowingly, we become closed to opinions that don't match our beliefs and stop consuming them altogether. This makes us even more polarised, and heightens the gap with the other side.
We certainly can't change what the media does, but once we become aware of the damage, we can try to work against it. Recently, I read about a tool to help our brains overcome this polarisation.
Think about a controversial topic where you have a strong opinion. Think about your arguments, emotions, the whole lot. Now, force yourself to argument against your opinion. Do you find any arguments? Do some of them make sense? Can you incorporate them and have a less strong opinion?
Repeating this thought process whenever you are too passionate or have a strong conviction about something will help broaden your mind.
